Commercial Road Studios · 19 Commercial Road, Shepton Mallet

10 Market Place · Shepton Mallet

Acquired in September 2023 with funding from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Somerset Community Foundation: the charity’s first owned and operated project, designed to help boost the local economy and drive up footfall.

Retail incubator · 2024–2025

From 2024 to 2025, Interim Spaces operated a retail incubator here, giving emerging businesses up to nine months free of rent and bills, alongside a £1,500 capital grant, industry mentoring and support into commercial premises. The ground-floor shop is now home to Nicolle Wilson Upholstery, a start-up upholstery business trading from the space on a subsidised rent.

The Studio

The gorgeous room on the top floor, under a high gabled ceiling, brings in a regular programme of classes and workshops in music, the arts and wellbeing, with a focus on subsidised, high quality lessons in music for children on up.

Hire includes underfloor heating, 12 chairs, two large fold-out tables, a projector and roll-down screen, black-out curtains, fast WiFi, a toilet, kitchenette and waiting area.

Paid hire has a minimum two-hour booking chunk, with no deposit. Payment is in advance by invoice and bank transfer. Wellbeing classes, workshops and private parties are paid hires; free community meetings include the council, Amulet group and Shepton Mallet Sunday Market.

The studio is up two flights of stairs, one winding and narrow. About eight people fit comfortably, or six to eight with movement; up to twelve seated is pushing the limit, and workshops depend on setup. For small children’s parties, ideally no more than twelve children, parents must remain present throughout; accompanying adults and layout must be considered.

Forty-eight hours’ cancellation notice is ideal. Please contact us to check availability and agree the booking.
